Engine Mounts

The info on this page was supplied by Andrew from the reader's rides page.

Looking at my old original 260 mounts got me thinking.  Was I really going use them to bolt in the new 5.0?  At first I thought I would because the rubber portion wasn't bad and I wanted to use as much of the car as I could and spend the least amount of money.  However, I found out that the distance between the mount holes in the block is different and I'd have to make plates for the mounts.

I decided instead that I would try Crites Restoration's small block motor mounts.  I shelled out the $99.00 and got the mounts.  Looks like they use a Ford Truck 302 mount from 69 or so.  Also looks like  Bronco mount from 66-77 302.  Pretty beefy.

They also have really nice fabbed metal mounts you are supposed to weld to your front cross-member.  They use two bolts at the front of the cross-member and then also sit flush on the back ledge of the cross-member.  Supposed to weld them at the back.

The front holes on the driver's side mount don't quite match the factory holes in your cross-member so hog out the outboard hole about 1/16".  Then it all fits nice.  Make sure you clean the metal to be welded.  I also painted the inside of my mounts before welding them in.  Test fit the motor and whatever trans you are using too....always good to check that first before welding.  Duh!   Have fun!
